Joining the MAPD Group – Business as usual, but even better!

THW are now “Powered by MAPD”!

The MAPD Group of law firms has recently announced that we (Thomson Hayton Winkley & The Rural Law Practice) have become part of the group.

As one of our clients or professional contacts you may be wondering what this means.  Put simply, it will be “business as usual, but even better!”  Day to day there will be no changes – we will still keep our name and all our staff will be the same, but behind the scenes we now have the benefit of being able to tap into the resources that being part of a bigger group can offer.

MAPD stands for Making a Positive Difference, so becoming part of a group whose name sums up what we feel and what we do on a daily basis feels like the perfect place for us.

Who are MAPD?  Pronounced “mapped”, the MAPD Group was created by Brian Cullen and Joanna Kingston-Davies in 2020.  They believe passionately in a better way of doing business and that an ethical business that does good can be a sustainable, profitable business where we can all do our best work and be true to ourselves.

There are a number of other legal businesses in the in group, but we are MAPD’s first Cumbrian firm.  One of the things that particularly attracted MAPD to us was our ethos and strong community ties and that we are trusted to provide legal services in our beautiful corner of the world.  Our particular experience in working with rural and tourism clients is also an added benefit that we can bring to the rest of the MAPD group.

Brian and Joanna recently came up to visit us and meet our team, and we are very much looking forward to working with them and others from MAPD – getting the injection of energy and positive power that MAPD can give.

On announcing the acquisition, Joanna Kingston-Davies said: “MAPD is a people-first business, and that is why we were attracted to THW and RLP. We’re not about changing firms: we look for successful firms and help them become even better.

“It was immediately obvious when meeting Simon and John that they had the right credentials we look for in a law firm, namely: a loyal and diverse client base, strong roots in their local community and a keen commitment to their people. Brian and I are thrilled to welcome them to the MAPD family, and we very much look forward to making a positive difference in their local community.”

MAPD’s focus on people will make sure we keep on making a positive difference to our people as well as our clients.  Looking to grow and develop Thomson Hayton Winkley and The Rural Law Practice, it was felt that we fit the MAPD model of successful practices seeking enhanced operational and financial support to propel their businesses forward. We are very much looking forward to what the future will bring.
