Always approachable, helpful and professional

Nigel Davis Consultant

I have almost 50 years experience of dealing with agricultural law and rural issues and have hands on experience of livestock farming and judging at the highest level, including County, Royal and the Royal Welsh Shows.

I believe in giving clear practical advice, with a sense of humour, and enjoy unknotting complex legal issues. My main areas of expertise are landlord and tenant, partnership, animal welfare, and regulatory compliance issues. I am also an accredited mediator, and deal with arbitrations, tribunals and public enquiries.

My law degree was obtained from Cambridge University and I was articled in Lincoln’s Inn before moving to Derbyshire and developing expertise in agricultural law. I am also known as a lecturer and author, being one of the co-authors of The Agricultural Precedents Handbook, published by Jordan and Agricultural Tenancies (3rd edition) published by Wildy, Simmons and Hill.

Away from the office, I am very keen on sheep and beef farming, and sheep dog trials. I was secretary of the English National Sheep Dog Trials in 2008 and a past president, chairman and secretary of Dovedale Sheep Dog Trials, Chairman of the 2011 World Sheep Dog Trials held on the Lowther Estate in Cumbria and am now again, since 2016, Chairman of Dovdale Sheepdog Trials & local chairman for the English National Sheepdog Trials 2021 which are being held at Dovedale. I have also recently completed co-authoring The History of Dovedale Sheep Dog Trials, which was launched at the English National Trials at the end of July 2021.
