Solicitor • Kendal
Originally from Cumbria, I read French and Spanish at Bristol University, the Sorbonne in Paris, and Granada University, gaining a BA Joint (Hons) Degree in Modern Languages. I subsequently worked in France for the Guardian and then other posts in London.
When we returned here to my home county I made the decision to study law. I began work with a local firm, where I was trained in conveyancing, before attending Chester College of Law to complete CPE and Solicitors’ Finals Courses. I secured articles in the Magistrates’ Courts’ Service and worked as a Magistrates’ Legal Advisor in criminal, youth and family courts for 17 years, travelling all over the county in that role.
With Thomson Hayton Winkley, I am now enjoying a return to private practice and to residential conveyancing, an area I enjoy.
My spare time is mostly spent at football matches – something I would never have anticipated! – I have a football mad son whose talent and enthusiasm are infectious. When not on a side line, I enjoy treading the boards with various local theatre groups, cooking, gardening and observing the wonderful local wildlife.
