There may be a few sore heads this morning after last
night’s Cumbria Tourism Awards 2018 ceremony! Hospitality and leisure
businesses from around the county were nominated in a wide range of categories
and the winners had plenty to celebrate. The event was held at Cartmel
Racecourse which was a stunning location and the marquee was beautifully set
out. After a drinks reception with plenty of chance to mingle, Gill Haigh
Cumbria Tourism’s MD gave a welcome speech and reminded us all what a great
place Cumbria is to live and work – not that we really needed reminding as we
know we are very lucky!
“The Voice of the Balls” and Strictly Come Dancing, Alan
Dedicoat was an excellent host, keeping order and ensuring everything went
smoothly. We sponsored the New Tourism Business Award, where the
nominees were Another Place - Ullswater, The Wheatsheaf at Beetham and The
Snooty Fox at Kirkby Lonsdale. The Judges decided that Another Place was
the winner, and our director John Cooke (referred to as “Cookey” by Alan
Dedicoat!) presented the award.
We were then treated to a delicious dinner prepared by the Ilex Brasserie at Holker Hall, including local Holker venison and Unsworth’s Cartmel ale, and very good it was too.
Our lovely table of guests were excellent company, and we were pleased that they were able to join us.
Our congratulations to all the winners on the night. The team at Cumbria Tourism Awards also deserve congratulations for putting on such a great event. They all clearly worked so hard and did their best to showcase our great county. Cumbria really is #theplacetobe!
